Bug ID: 4129
Summary: claws-mail freezes during network changes
Classification: Unclassified
Product: Claws Mail
Version: other
Hardware: PC
OS: Windows 2000
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: Other
Assignee: ***@lists.claws-mail.org
Reporter: ***@yandex.com

claws-mail always freezes if there are any changes to the network while it is
running and it has to be killed manually to overcome this.

The is all versions.

I don't think claws-mail should be affected by network changes while it is up
as long as it isn't directly in the process of doing something. The problem
happens even when claws-mail is just idle sitting by.

Sorry, this is on Linux and BSD OS's. I don't know anything about the Windows
versions.

Never happens here.
That is, you need to tell us more about your set up. e.g. is that IMAP? Are you
using buuilt-in NetworkManger support? etc

Thanks for the reply :) And sorry for the missing details!

No network manager, only manual terminal management. And only IMAP.

I have tested this on a huge rage of setups over an extended time (years) - not
by design, but simply because I use all these systems and have run into this
problem persistently, just never sat down and filed a rapport.

I have tested on Arch, Debian, Mint, Void and FreeBSD.

The problem is persistent and relatively easy to replicate.

One simple way to experience the problem is to:

1. Enable a VPN service (get an IP).
2. Start claws-mail and open an Inbox.
3. Re-start the VPN service (get another IP).
4. Try to read another email.

It's like claws-mail tries to "keep" the connection open all time and since the
IP changes, it freezes up and has to be killed.

Kindest regards.

Yes, IMAP connections are kept alive. So you can either build/use claws-mail
with NetworkManager support, or, click the 'offline' button (or '/File/Offline
Mode') twice, to go offline and then back online when your network changes.

Going into offline mode will terminate the IMAP acconection.
